Una lancia della Guardia Costiera ucraina salta in aria a largo di Mariupol

Ieri pomeriggio una imbarcazione della Guardia Costiera ucraina è saltata in aria a largo di Mariupol, sul mare d'Azov. Il fatto è avvenuto a circa 4 Km dalla costa, davanti agli occhi di diversi curiosi. Si tratta di una lancia della Guardia Costiera.
Le autorità della giunta non hanno ancora riferito alcun dettaglio, ma ci sarebbero 4 feriti, di cui 3 in gravi condizioni.

 

Ricordiamo che soltanto pochi mesi fa le forze armate ucraine avevano minato le coste del Mare d'Azov, facendo pubblicizzare l'azione in pompa magna.
E' del tutto probabile che l'imbarcazione abbia colpito una mina messa dalle stesse forze controllate dalla giunta golpista di Kiev.

Il 21 Maggio, l'Ucraina e la Moldavia hanno quasi contemporaneamente deciso di impedire l'accesso delle truppe russe sul territorio della Transnistria. Secondo il vice primo ministro della Transnistria, Nina Shtanski, raggruppamenti di Forze Armate ucraine hanno cominciato a comparire sul confine, dopo che Mikhail Saakashvili è stato nominato come governatore della regione di Odessa. In tanti ritengono che potrebbe scoppiare una guerra anche sul fronte del territorio della Transnistria.

Luhansk Governor Hennadiy Moskal given prosecutors a list of 65 crimes allegedly committed by members of the Aidar Battalion, a volunteer force fighting on the front line that he has frequently described as a group of marauding bandits.

The list of crimes includes “a mass of incidents of kidnapping, extortion, torture, robbery and the illegal use of weapons” along the front line, Moskal wrote. His allegations come days after the battalion’s former commander, Sergei Melnichuk, was stripped of his parliamentary immunity by the Verkhovna Rada.

Melnichuk, of the “People’s Will” faction, now faces charges for the illegal formation of armed groups, although the Verkhovna Rada stopped short of approving his arrest on June 3.

“Once again, I would like to stress that part of Aidar is actually defending the territorial integrity of Ukraine on the front line, with weapons in their hands, while another part has decided to make money off of war. In the list, only 25 percent of the crimes are heinous and high profile -- including kidnapping civil servants and demanding ransom, resisting the work of law enforcement bodies and robbing entrepreneurs, etc.,” Moskal wrote on his official website on June 8.

Moskal claims that many members of the volunteer battalion were not officially registered at the time the crimes were committed, though they were nonetheless given weapons and Aidar badges while Melnichuk was in charge.

In total, the list includes 65 separate crimes, all of which took place throughout 2014. In the online statement, Moskal explained the list’s publication by saying the Verkhovna Rada had given consent to investigate crimes committed only in the Kyiv and Zhitomorsk regions, not Luhansk.

“But victims (of Aidar’s crimes) and their relatives appeal to me every day, asking if the perpetrators will ever be punished,” he wrote. “What am I supposed to tell them, that Melnichuk will be charged only for (crimes) in Kyiv and Zhitomirsk?”

The General Prosecutor’s office has accused Melnichuk and several members of the battalion of attacking private enterprises in the Luhansk Oblast, an allegation which Melnichuk has denied.

Melnychuk was unavailable for comment on the latest allegations against him. In an interview with Ukrainian media days earlier, however, he scoffed at the accusations.

“From the very first day (of the conflict), we were a part of the armed forces, and the accusation that we created an armed gang … well then that means the Defense Ministry created an armed gang, that it was initiated by (Sergei) Pashinskyi, as the General Prosecutor explained that whoever took part in this gang is a member of it. There were so many volunteers all over Ukraine; this means they were all members of a gang, apparently,” Melnichuk said in an interview with television channel 112 Ukraine on June 2.

Mykola Grekov, an Aidar officer in Luhansk, told the Kyiv Post that Aidar insignia could easily be purchased by ordinary people, meaning anyone could impersonate members of the group and commit crimes.

“Everyone thinks there is some conflict between Aidar and Moskal, but that’s just not possible. We work together, we are subordinate to him. He was just presenting information that was presented to him (with this list of crimes), and if it is proven that these crimes were committed by Aidar members, they will face charges,” he said.

“But we are a part of Ukraine’s armed forces, not some gang of bandits like people think,” he said.

The Aidar Battalion has found itself at the center of several scandals in the region, including the alleged armed takeover of a bread factory, which Moskal in April asked the Defense Ministry to liberate from the “armed militants,” who he said had been stealing money and tearing up equipment.

In mid-March, Moskal said three members of the battalion had drunkenly burst into a resident’s home before beating up the owner and orchestrating a shoot-out in the street.

Moscow Accuses Kyiv Of Fanning The Flames Ahead Of G7 Summit​

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Kyiv of trying to “escalate" the conflict in the country’s east ahead of a Group of Seven (G7) summit of economic powers.

Lavrov told a news conference in Moscow on June 8, “It is a kind of a joker card in the hands of the Ukrainian authorities -- We, Ukrainians, will disrupt the implementation of the Minsk agreements, but it will be Russia who will suffer because no one will lift sanctions against Russia."

On the first day of the G7 summit in Germany on June 7, the U.S. and German leaders said sanctions on Russia must stay until it implements the deal to end fighting in Ukraine's east.

"By adopting a stance where sanctions against Russia are linked to the implementation of the Minsk agreements by Russia only," Lavrov said, "our Western partners have become hostages of the current Ukrainian government."

Mikheil Saakashvili—known to most of the world as “Misha”—will not slip quietly into history.

The sensational news that he has been appointed governor of Odessa province will have rippling effects across Ukraine, Georgia and in the breakaway territory of Transnistria.

Saakashvili has been an adviser to the Ukrainian government for the past year but mainly in a back-seat role. Now he is suddenly back in the limelight in charge of Ukraine’s biggest port and a region of 2.4 million people.

Odessa is notoriously corrupt, its port is a nest of organized crime and previous governors have mixed business with politics.

Poroshenko’s gamble will be that history can repeat itself and a foreign-born appointee can put his stamp on Odessa. The analogy is Duke of Richelieu, the charismatic young exiled French aristocrat named by Tsar Alexander I to be Odessa’s gradonachal’nik (or city chief) who launched the city on its golden years of economic boom. Richelieu’s statue, clad in a Roman toga, stands at the top of the famous Potemkin Steps.

Saakashvili certainly promises something completely different. He has already started purging the bureaucracy. But the challenge is even bigger than the one he faced in his own country in 2004. In Georgia he began with a clean slate and a big electoral mandate. Moreover, he was more the front-man selling the anti-corruption reforms implemented by others. In Odessa he must start from scratch in a foreign country.

Then there is the international context. The drama titled “Saakashvili vs Russia” is a decade old now and shows no signs of ending. The former Georgian president has used his time in Kiev to launch new broadsides against Russia and the Russian media is still trying to baitits bête noire. On Russia’s Channel 1, Mikhail Delyagin told viewers that Ukraine’s “supplies of political bums and prostitutes has been nearly exhausted. They have to import new ones.”

Odessa is largely Russian-speaking and still has close cultural and economic ties to Russia. Saakashvili’s divisive history with Russia will be problematic in a city that is still dealing with violence of May 2 last year when dozens of pro-Russian activists died in a fire in the center of town.

Commentators are also speculating on what this will mean for Transnistria, the pro-Russian enclave de facto separate from Moldova and 100km to the north of Odessa.

Bordering only Moldova and Ukraine, Transnistria has been squeezed over the last year. On May 21 the parliament in Kiev revoked the permission of the Russian military to transit Ukrainian territory to get there. Almost all the territory’s imports, both legal and illegal, come via Odessa. Transnistrian officials now say they are under a “blockade” and have appealed to Moscow for help.

In February Saakashvili went on the record to assert that Russia wanted to punch a land corridor from Odessa to Transnistria so as to destroy Ukraine. Any prospect of an operation to squeeze Transnistria will bring back bad memories of South Ossetia in 2004 when what began as a Georgian-government anti-smuggling operation led to a summer of bloodshed, setting the stage for the subsequent conflict of 2008.

In Georgia itself there is fevered discussion of the news. There is humorous commentary on Saakashvili’s declaration that “There is no other city on the Black Sea, which can compete with its potential with this wonderful city,” with Georgians asking, “What about Batumi?” in reference to the ex-president’s previous pet project.

The most intriguing twist is that the former president, who is facing a criminal indictment in Georgia, must renounce his Georgian citizenship to take the job. He told the BBC “a Georgian passport basically means guaranteed imprisonment in Georgia”

Georgia of 2015 is still enduring the very personal political feud between Saakashvili and Bidzina Ivanishvili that began in 2011. Possibly, Saakashvili’s change of job could be the stimulus members of his United National Movement (UNM) party need to push him out as party leader. Only last week four UNM parliamentarians left the party, saying it needed a fresh start.

The UNM has a solid but small base of support and Saakashvili’s divisive legacy is the major reason it cannot attract new supporters. If the party can get itself a new less controversial leader, the news that is shaking Odessa may have a calming effect on Georgia.
